So we're leaving the desert soon. Anyone want to bet on where we go next? What do you want to see? Personally, if I had my druthers: oak savanna. Get a lot more plants and trees around but they're not in dense stands. Good grazing country while still having shade and windbreaks. Maybe even real horses. These scaly ones are well enough but they're just not very expressive.

[Now he wants one too. Bathing in the oasis just isn't the same!]

[Cultural differences still state that you should rinse off in the shower first and then relax in the tub, according to Hanako, but he’s not complaining!
In fact, this point further cements why he made Papyrus his second-in-command!]
Maybe we can form some sort of hot springs organization~?

THE STEAMY DESTINATIONS OF CARTOON TEENAGER FLIRTING HYJINKS??
[He's watched a few more anime than he prefers to pretend he has, okay.]
I CAN PASS ON THOSE SCENES,
BUT I SUPPOSE HOT SPRINGS ARE NATURE'S HOT TUBS.

[Not that Tsuchigomori allowed those channels to be broadcast on their Ye Old Television set. They most often ended up watching the Mokke channel.
If Hanako was being honest with himself though, he probably couldn’t handle said scenes either.]
If anything, it would be nice to be able to relax after being in a desert! I haven’t been able to feel warm water for several decades~

[Knowing what little he does of the long haunting experience, the skeleton is already reassessing how much he'd like the option to sneak back to the realm of the living to haunt friends and family for a while.]
WAS IT ONLY THE HOT WATER, OR...

Everything~! The weather, hot water, even steam! I was untouchable! Strangely though… stuff like miso soup was still edible.

[NYEH HEH HEH. It's a too-obvious pun, but he has to. It relieves some of the sense of missing his brother, and breaks a little of the tension of his building concern. There's a lot of questions in this mostly water-based breakdown of intangibility, here, like:]
WAS IT STILL TASTY?
AND, HOW DID YOU EAT IT?
The pun XD I’m dead. Glorious
[It was such a strange conundrum. Plus… Hanako liked something else even better than miso soup.]
It’s a shame that we don’t really have food here. That’s a theory I’d be willing to test~

[It's almost a shame there aren't any ghosts in the monster sense around, so he can ask them about ghost food. Maybe someday, very distant, in their crossings...]
NOT REAL FOOD, BUT,
THERE ARE TREES. AND PLANTS.
A DESPERATE FOODIE COULD RESORT TO A CAMPFIRE AND TOASTED LEAVES.

A desperate foodie indeed…
Good thing we don’t actually need food here~!
[Not that Hanako was one to judge, but if his first real meal in fifty years was going to be charred leaves, he probably would pass on it. (And maybe pass on for a third time!)]

I HAVEN'T MISSED MY BROTHER'S FAKE PLANT FOODS.
BUT WE DO HAVE SALT.
WITH ENOUGH IMAGINATION, I'M SURE SOME SORT OF FRIES ARE POSSIBLE.
[Okay, maybe he misses his brother's fake plant foods a little bit. But not enough to actually eat them, either.]

[Is Hanako really just delegating stuff that he doesn’t have the energy or care for to someone else? How awful.]

I'LL START SOME EXPERIMENTS BETWEEN MY OTHER PREPARATIONS.
[Of course, by the time he actually gets around to it - and they finish the Crossing - they'll have long left the salt behind. Hopefully he'll find a salt lick. Or some other sort of seasoning to experiment with... At least they'll have found far more vegetation to work with re: foodstuff.]
