[The Crossing is coming again.

There is no advance warning from The Ferryman this time. There is nothing to draw your attention towards the message that appears on your device, whatever it may be, except perhaps the expectation that it should be appearing soon.

Whether you think to check for it or you simply stumble upon it, the words are there just as before:]

A toll to be levied for safe passage
from the desert to ǝɹǝɥʍǝsʅǝ

envision a place of comfort and safety
a haven from the wants and ills of life
be it for a moment or for a lifetime

offer it to The Ferryman
and let go

[Well, seems like the fact that they wouldn’t be sticking around here long was true.]

So, as someone who wasn’t here for this Crossing… what exactly should I know?

[He is shamelessly fishing for information.]

It's likely that whichever memory you give up will be shared with everyone during the journey.

Everyone? Wow, isn’t that embarrassing~?

[The tone of the message is joking but… yeah, that might be embarrassing. Or worse, depending on the memory.]

So you give up your memory and… everyone sees it? One by one?

Last time, it was more that we heard all of them at once. The theme that time was voices, though, so this one could be presented differently!

[Hanako took a few moments to process that.]

Voices and places… seems like the memories themselves need an anchor point in each one, for that to count. Otherwise, get too vague and quite a lot could slip through.

[That fact still didn’t stop his concern.]

Ah! What about the Wraiths? Do they tag along too?

[While said Wraiths had done nothing but haunt the desert and stare at any nearby recently-dead, maybe they moved from area to area like they were supposed to.]

They become hostile. If you aren't going with Ferryman-san, you'll have to deal with them attacking you.

[That… could be irksome.]

So the Ferryman does ward off dangers then. But it’s in exchange for something you hold dear.

[At least, this time it was. Hanako can’t help but feel something sour in his stomach at his own conditions being thrown in his face. Sure, that’s what he had done in the land of the living - grant one wish in exchange for something ‘precious’ but it was never…]

Right. Of course, if you go without them, and the wraiths succeed in harming you, you'll lose memories anyway. That's the current theory, anyway.
toilet_bound: (Listening (Suspicion))

[personal profile] toilet_bound 2025-03-13 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[That wasn’t good news. Even if it was something Hanako didn’t want to hear…]

If it’s a theory, I assume there’s some amount of evidence behind it?

Everyone who tried that route was injured and lost a memory. In fact, the only reason it's not confirmed is nobody didn't get injured!

[That meant either everyone was either non-adept at dealing with the Wraiths… or maybe their spectral watchers were more formidable than they first appeared.]

That’s useful to know… any idea if those same people are thinking of attempting Crossing alone again?

Dankovsky-san and Urameshi-kun. They seem to both be stubborn types.
toilet_bound: (Hmm? (Content))

[personal profile] toilet_bound 2025-03-17 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
[That was also good to know. Stubborn could mean less easily swayed, but once you got them on a path…]

Ah, the wandering man! I admit I haven’t met the latter yet. There’s more people here than I thought~

Urameshi-kun is a loner type. [Nagito decided this from one conversation with him across the network during the Crossing, so this might be an unfair assessment.]

There’s always at least one of those. I’ll be sure to keep an eye out!

[If he was a loner though… that probably wouldn’t work for Hanako’s goals.]
