Post Crossing Meeting

WHO: Kel and anyone who wants to discuss The Crossing
WHAT: Second 'Town Meeting'
WHERE: Oasis
WHEN: A bit after the crossing, when everyone has time to calm down and breathe.
WARNINGS Talks of death, definitely, mention of blood and wounds, other CWs to be added.

[Kel has seen people scatter around and, despite still acting like a foolish fool around Mari and Sunny... he is doing his best to try to coordinate things as he can. Armed with a set bright of pink pencils, definitely merchandise of the Sweetheart brand from his place, he prepared a whole wall in one of the shelters to work as a rough chalkboard and, written on it, there are his few observations from staying behind.

- Nothing beside the wraiths did show up. What are we running from?
- Ferryman honest or not?
- When you don't pay the tool, you may still lose memories
- Our bodies can get hurt as if we're still alive.
- Discussion About Crossing from both sides?

It's not much but try to get stuff to appear properly on a blank wall when all you have is a bunch of pencils that don't even write that well. He's trying, though, he really is. A message is sent out to everyone after he's done gathering enough pillows for everyone to sit in, inviting people to come and share experiences, and... that's all. He did, at least, prepare water for everyone to drink.... it's somethin, right?

"Why, thank you for coming! Take a seat, mingle and let's get down to businesses!"

OOC: This is a mingle thread. Feel free to interact with each other and have discussions about things. The 'chalkboard' will be updated if anything is brought up to Kel's attention, I'll leave an open post for that.

Celehar comes across this section a bit later, and spends a few moments frowning at the first hypothesis, before noting next to it in a neat and legible hand;

Alternately, the Wraiths are those who have tried to undertake the journey and have failed, becoming lost in the darkness too soon.

Dankovsky sees this and frowns, but he can't disprove it... he adds this note below that.

What would failure entail? If you are correct, we should be able to find out, so we can avoid this failure ourselves.

At least he's engaging in good faith, even if he thinks his hypothesis is better.

And, circling back later, Celehar adds;

First, the failure to truly fade.
Second, a failure to reincarnate, if that is indeed what happens to the soul after death as some theorize.

Soo Won patiently waited for Celehar to be finished with their conversation before adding another note alongside their hypothesis.

The Ferryman has inferred that the wraiths were like us once and has mentioned that our souls are vulnerable during the crossing. The loss of memories seems to be more controlled under the Ferryman's protection.

Wraiths can't cross like we can so strategically speaking they're well placed to act as a deterrent. Whether intentionally or not remains to be seen.

Wraiths are different from souls at rest.

[Evidence is paltry on that one, but Celehar nevertheless writes it emphatically.]

[Kel's exuberant outburst was a breath of fresh air given the heavy topic they were discussing and Soo Won politely stifled a chuckle. Ah he needed that. He patiently waited for Celehar to finish his note before agreeing with a small hum as he added his own thoughts below his.]

I agree with that theory. I don't get the impression that the crossings are meant to leave us as hollow husks. We know memories are needed to cross. With the Ferryman it's a choice but if you're injured while crossing alone then the damage to your soul is unpredictable. I suspect that losing too much of themselves is what made it impossible for the wraiths to cross like us, since they no longer have enough memories to pay the toll.
